Ladies Charity 15 Hole Open Golf Competition

Monday 3rd of October saw the first Ladies Open Charity golf event at the club.  Designed to be a start of winter competition, this was held over 15 holes, missing out holes 12,13 and 14.

After a quite cool and very foggy start the day brightened up, infact it turned out to be a perfect autumn day.  Our started Mr Derrick Lewis once again spent hours making sure the ladies were all informed and heading in the right direction!  Thank you yet again Derrick.   A total of fourteen teams of four took part in this 2 from 4 Am-Am stableford, and all things considered being a first running of this event, the day went very well. Once the morning brightened up, the ladies were in fact asking if they could do all 18 holes!

Teams were registered by Alison, and I think she was exceedingly busy trying to book everyone in and relieve them of some "raffle money" at the same time.  Thanks Alison for all your hard work on the day. Teams from Belton Woods, Retford, Toft, Lincoln, Millfield and of course our own Newark ladies were just some of the clubs represented on the day.  The halfway house was a welcome stop for the ladies with the two Shirleys' plying the visitors and members with copious amounts of tea/coffee and cake to keep them going for the last few holes.

All in all I think the format worked out very well, and all of the teams in the prizes stayed for the presentation.

1st Team K Hutchinson/ A Dyer / J Walsh / J Brunt   66 Points

2nd Team N Tatham / R Broughton / G Chatterton / J Quibell   63 Points (C/Back)

3rd Team L Lester / J Savage / A Brightman / A Wilson   63 Points (C/Back)

4th Team M Lees / L Robinson / M Scott / H Roscoe  63 Points

5th Team R Ozolins / J Jalland / S Burns / M Lewis  61 Points (C/Back)

Prizes were awarded to winners for Nearest the Pin on all the Par 3's, Longest Drive on the 6th and Nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th.

Congratulations to all of the winners.

All in all a very enjoyable day, with the added bonus (once all of the prizes and costs were deducted) made an impressive £650 for my charity Brain Tumour Research and Headsmart at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.  This has taken the total amount raised for this year to over £7,500  which is a fantastic amount, which would not have been possible without the continued and generous support of all the ladies of Newark Golf Club, so a heartfelt thank you ladies.
